The thermal stability of group 16 elements follows the trend - H2O > H2S > H2Se>H2Te> H2Po.
This clearly indicates that on moving down the group the thermal stability of the elements decreases as -
-The number of shells in an atom increase as we move down the group which is to the outermost electrons being loosely held.
-The bond dissociation enthalpy of hydrides H-E (the energy required to break the bond of one mole of elements) decreases.
