Dear Student,

● Answer -

(a) Weight above 100 km earth = 0.9683mg

(b) Weight below 100 km earth = 0.9841mg

◆ Explaination -

# Given -

R = 6300 km

d = 100 km

h = 100 km

# Solution -

Let m be the mass of the body.

When it's 100 km above the earth surface,

Wh = m.gh

Wh = m × g × (1 - 2h/R)

Wh = mg × (1 - 2×100/6300)

Wh = 0.9683mg

When the body is 100 km below the earth surface,

Wd = m.gd

Wd = m × g × (1 - d/R)

Wd = mg × (1 - 100/6300)

Wd = 0.9841mg

Hope this helps you...
