An engine is a machine made up of different parts working using some fuel such as petrol, diesel, etc. It produces energy in this process.

A living cell is a single object which uses food to get energy to perform functions. It uses energy.

An engine takes in chemical energy and gives out mechanical energy. So,in a way it does a transformation of energy to carry out work.
A living cell is similar to an engine as it takes oxygen and coverts it into carbon dioxide to get energy. But a cell is different from an engine as combustion takes place in an engine and respiration takes place in cell.
Also a cell can repair itself, but an engine cannot repair itself.
An cell is a living entity but an angine is not a living entity
