Periodontal disease has shown to affect almost 80% of the adult population in United states [1]. The etiology of periodontal disease involves a complex interplay between bacterial pathogens and the host tissues which determines the course and extent of periodontal destruction [2]. Recent research suggests that bacteria associated with periodontal disease are associated with an increased risk of bacteremia, heart disease, diabetes, stroke, premature birth [3,4], and respiratory infection in susceptible individuals [5,6].
