The cultural differences between Indian companies being set up now by first generation educated entrepreneurs, and MNCs, is fading away quickly. But there is still a gulf of separation from the cultures of traditional, old Indian companies.
The difference in Indian and western cultures is this - while ours is based on relationships, the western ones are transaction-based. Indian companies will put up with not-so-good output from old, long term employees, while MNCs practice perform-or-perish. You are worth what you deliver. And you will be rewarded for what you deliver. It does create a performance-orientation, but also a lot of pressure for people who cannot adapt to it.
The old Indian corporates would have a very long tolerance time for non-performers, almost never sack a person only for this.

MNCs are able to invest heavily in Research and Development (R&D) and innovate rapidly when compared to Indian companies. MNCs have elaborate laboratories in various foreign countries and a huge talent pool for R&D activities. Indian companies often do not have R&D facilities outside this country.
