Answer:
Telangana Kisan Congress Chairman Sunketa Anvesh Reddy has demanded that the State government pay compensation to farmers who have lost their standing crops due to heavy rains and resultant floods in the State. He said that paddy, cotton and mirchi in several districts of the State and green mung crop in Khammam and Mahbubabad districts were damaged beyond recovery.
“There used be confidence among farmers that the crop insurance scheme will save them from calamities like this. But as the government is not paying its part of the premium to the insurance companies, farmers will not be receiving any compensation,” he said. He pointed out that only “rytu bandhu” payments won’t be of help to the farmers who have lost everything due to the incessant rains that damaged their crops. “Rytu Bandhu is not a panacea for all problems,” he said.
He also said that the government can also provide input subsidy to save the farmers who are affected but such natural calamities. He said that the central government has scrapped the Prime Minister Fasal Bima Yojana . “As both the Centre and the State have completely ignored the protection of farmers Telangana farmers will be put to lot of trouble . Kisan Congress demands that the farmers are provided with compensation immediately,” he said.
