Solution:

From given, we have,

Compound interest on a sum of money for 3rd year = Rs. 1206

Compound interest on a sum of money for 4th year = Rs. 1809

We use the basic formulae to find the rate and amount.

Rate = \dfrac{115.2}{576}\times 100= 20\%\\A_2 = 576 \times \dfrac{100}{120} = 480\\\\A_1 =480 \times \dfrac{100}{120} = 400\\\\P = \dfrac{400}{20} \times 100 = 2000

Therefore, the sum is Rs. 2000

Verification:

SI = PTR/100

= 2000 × 5 × 20 / 100

= 20 × 5 × 20

= 400 × 5

= 2000

∴ S.I. = Rs. 2000
