The classification of an element is as follows:-

  1. Metal - They have a lustrous appearance, can conduct heat and electricity well. They are generally malleable and ductile, and with good tensile strength. e.g. -gold, aluminium, iron
  2. Non-metal - Complete opposite of metals. They do not have a lustrous appearance. Generally, they are poor electricity and heat conductors. They are not malleable or ductile and have less tensile strength. They are brittle in nature. e.g. - oxygen, sulphur, carbon
  3. Metalloid - It is an intermediate element, that shares the properties of both metals and non-metals. e.g. - boron, silicon, antimony
