- The concept of continental drift was first explained by a German scientist named Alfred Wegener.
- He came up with this concept because he noticed that the coast of western Africa and eastern South America appeared to him as puzzles pieces.
- According to Wegener, these puzzles pieces could have been joined as one piece of land but later got drifted apart due to calamities.
- Therefore, he theorized that all these lands or continents joined together as supercontinent or Pangea which was formed around 225 million year ago and later got drifted apart as single continents.
