Capital : Derived demand :: Umbrella: Seasonal Demand

  • Derived demand is secondary demand. It arises due to demand of something else. For e.g. a demand for house will result in demand for bricks, steel, sand etc. Therefore, demand of bricks, steel etc. is derived demand.
  • Capital is a derived demand i.e. the demand for capital arises due to the demand for production of something else.
  • Seasonal demand is short term demand. It is the demand that arises for a specific period of time or for a season. For e.g. ice-cream is demanded mainly in summers and not winters.
  • Umbrella is a seasonal demand i.e. the demand for umbrella arises mainly during the rainy season or when it is very hot. They are not demanded throughout the year.
