To find : (I) to (V) given in stanza

Answer :

(I) Solute

(II) lower

(III) higher

(IV) passive transport

(V) transport proteins

Additional information :

  • Movement of solute from lower concentrations to higher concentrations (of solution) across a cell membrane without requiring energy is called passive transport

  • Passive transport is further sub-divided into 2 part - (I) Passive Diffusion (II) Facilitated Diffusion
  1. passive diffusion - It is movement of molecules from higher concentrations to lower concentrations (that is towards concentration gradient) without use of energy or any transport proteins
  2. Facilitated Diffusion - movement of molecules along with concentration gradient without using energy but uses transport proteins

  • Active transport - it is movement of molecules against there concentration gradient with use of energy and transport proteins.

  • As Facilitated Diffusion & Active transport require transport proteins , there is a point when all transport proteins will be acquired by molecules such that no further molecules can add up . At this point transport is maximum.

  • As passive diffusion don't use transport proteins, there is no such saturation point , until there is a presence of concentration gradient
