Answer:

The Archaeological Survey of India has safeguarded our rich heritage of monuments for the past 150 years. The ASI, the brainchild of our erstwhile colonial rulers, has grown like a mammoth institution ever since its inception. It is engaged in the conservation of thousands of monuments and excavation sites spread all over the country. During the pre partition days, the ASI had discovered the legendary sites in Mohenjodaro and Harappa. Apart from those two, the ASI has excavated more Indus Valley sites after independence. These sites include Kalibangan in Rajasthan, Benavali and Haryana and Dholavira in Gujarat. The ASI has excelled in another area as well and that is academic research. The central library of the ASI, founded by Stein Know in 1902, is rated as one of the best research centres in the whole of South Asia.
