It was my first exam. I was already late. I dashed towards my scooty and put the key in the ignition. But it wouldn’t start. Panic-stricken, I rushed towards the main road to catch a bus and I got a bus to the metro station. As I was paying for the ticket, I realised that I had only Rs.10, and they were not sufficient at all. I told the bus conductor to drop me to the Grand Trunk road and paid Rs.10 for its ticket. After 5 minutes I was there on GT road, without any vehicle or money. I cursed myself for being irresponsible. I could have got down of the bus the moment I found out that I am lacking money and could have ran to my home to get some extra money. But perhaps, panic took over me at that time and now, it was too late to do anything. I felt like crying when I heard someone, “Want a lift ?” I turned around and saw a stranger. He was not completely a stranger to me, rather, a person whom I have helped a few days earlier to find his cellphone. I rushed into his car and took a deep breath of relief.Read more on Sarthaks.com - https://www.sarthaks.com/288294/it-was-my-first-exam-was-already-late-dashed-towards-my-scooty-and-put-the-key-in-the-ignition
Answer:
I didn't stop until I reached the bus halt. I was out of breath and my uniform was soaked with sweat by the time I arrived there. What a state to sit for an exam! "Excuse me, when would the next bus arrive?" I asked an old man who was there. He looked at his watch and told me that a bus had left about five minutes before I came and the next bus would be there in about twenty minutes. I couldn't wait that long. The others would have finished half of the paper by the time I reach my school. I had to figure out a faster option.
Then an idea came into my mind. My friend was living in the same street where my house was located in. I could ask his father to drop me to school along with my friend. But if he had already left, there would be no way for me to go to school. I began to run once again. I was relieved to see that their car was still parked in the garage. That means they haven't left. Panting hard, I rang their door bell. The door was opened by my friend. He was startled to see the state I was in. Then he asked something I never expected to hear. "What happened? Why are you in your uniform?"
"What else should I wear to school?" I snapped back. Then only I realized that my friend was still in his pajamas. I was extremely puzzled. "Aren't you sitting for the exam?" I asked. Then my friend suddenly started to laugh saying that I was a super idiot. "You should be crying because you are going to get late for exam, but you are laughing your head off. So who's the real idiot?" I asked.
"Alright, we'll drop you at school but you will find it closed. Because it's Sunday." He told me. "Sunday? but I have already spent the two days of the weekend at home. So it should be Monday.", I replied. Then he said, "Of course you spent two days at home because you didn't come to school on Friday, saying that you had a headache. You were at home on Friday and Saturday. So it's Sunday today. Start to use a calendar instead of counting days on your own."
