Faults, folding, ridges, mountains, valleys and volcanic arcs are formed when the plates move because of the collision of tectonic plates below the ground.

  • Tectonic plates are made up of continental and oceanic lithosphere.
  • Movement of these tectonic plates forms convergent, divergent, and transform tectonic boundaries.
  • When these plates collide a fracture/fault is created in the Earth`s crust. This builds up pressure below the Earth`s surface.
  • Later the pressure is released resulting in an earthquake.
