For past few days, I have learned that modal verbs are auxiliary verb. They are words that modify or change the meaning of main verbs.

The words can, could, should, must and may are some examples of modal verbs.

Modal verbs function differently. They are used to show a possibility, obligation, ability, permission, request, willingness, promise, decision and offer.

I conclude that modal verbs are can, may, could, must, might, should, shall, ought to and will.
