Sexual reproduction occurs with the help of two germ cells called female and male gametes.

They are formed by meiosis where the chromosome number is reduced to half and hence gametes are formed. A diploid zygote is formed by the union of haploid male and female gametes. The zygote divides by mitosis and an embryo is formed.
