(i) On reacting CH_{3}-CH_{2}-CH_{2}-COOH with Br_{2} and P , we get , CH_{3}-CH_{2}-CH(Br)-COOH .

CH_{3}-CH_{2}-CH_{2}-COOH + Br_{2} + P → CH_{3}-CH_{2}-CH(Br)-COOH  

(ii) In the next step , reacting the product of (i) reaction with aqueous NH_{3} , we get , CH_{3}-CH_{2}-CH(NH_{2})-COOH .

CH_{3}-CH_{2}-CH(Br)-COOH + NH_{3} ( aq. ) → CH_{3}-CH_{2}-CH(NH_{2})-COOH
