Most substances increase in volume when temperature increases.

For example: If you heat an iron rod, it will become fatter and longer and its density will decrease.

This happens because mass of the iron rod stays the same, but, its volume increases because of heat. The increase in volume with increase in heat is called expansion.

If the iron rod cools down, its volume decreases and density increases. This decrease in volume is called contraction.

ANSWER:

If mass remains the same while the volume of a substance INCREASES, the density of the substance will DECREASE.
