Completion of root nodule formation is marked by the development of vascular connection.

Root nodule formation involves multiple interactions between Rhizobium and the host plant. The various stages are as follows:-

  1. Rhizobia multiply and colonize the surroundings of the root.
  2. Root hairs then curl and bacteria invade them.
  3. Infection thread carries bacteria to the inner cortex.
  4. Bacteria then get modified into bacteroids and cause division of cortical and pericycle cells.
  5. A mature nodule is complete with vascular tissues continuous with those of root.
