The sea
For many, a source of livelihood,
Building their lives with natural good.
Yet tumultuous stormy nights,
Make people run about in fright.
Little splashes for children to play,
Gigantic waves destroying all that comes in the way.
Establishing trade roots and make connections,
Flooding cities, breaking down communication.
Calm and pleasure giving,
Yet treacherous and life taking.
You have your highs and lows,
Just like life does too.
The poem highlights how the sea can be a friend and an enemy as well. Everything depends on the weather and geographical forces in play. This is a similarity that the sea shares with life. Both are unpredictable and have their ups and downs, joys and sorrows.
