Answer:
Last night I was awaken suddenly. I felt that something is wrong. I hopped up and as I was listening, I heard the loud crackling sound of a house burning. I was sure it was a house or houses burning because I have witnessed one a few years ago. I rushed to the window of my bedroom. It was bright as several houses were on fire. People were shouting frantically.
The site of the fire was just a few blocks away. I knew that most of the houses on fire belong to people I know so well. I called the fire department. Someone replied that they are already on the way. I changed my clothes and quickly rushed out. Even in the confusion, few of them were bringing water from the pond nearby. I shouted for more buckets. I called the men to make a queue from the water pond to the houses on fire. The water buckets were passed from one person to another to douse the fire. People brought more buckets and so we started faster. Further down others too had formed a line like us and passing buckets of water as quickly as possible. Together we were able to bring down the fire one house after the other.
The fire brigade arrived and began to feel relaxed. I was impressed by how quick and efficient they are. Someone angrily shouted at them for not coming sooner. One fireman, probably the one in charge, explained that because the roads were narrow they could not arrive early. He was right. Buildings have encroached the roads. He then calmly told the firemen to spray water on places which are still on fire and to make sure it does not start again if wind started blowing. It was hard to assess the damage at night. But I could see that not a single house was razed to the ground completely.
I believe that we did a splendid job. It would have been worse.
