Composition and functioning of national commission

National Commission for Women was set up in 1992 and is features the following members nominated by the Central Government as its composition:
*A chairperson who is dedicated to working for the cause of women
*Five people with integrity and ability, as well as experience in different areas pertaining to women such as legislation or law, health, social welfare or education, voluntary organizations, trade union and so on
Some functions of the National Commission for Women are:
*Receiving and processing any complaint filed by an Indian woman who has been deserted by her Indian husband staying overseas.
*Offering any help regarding the complaint obtained. This can be mediation and/or conciliation between the parties, as well as giving the complainant relevant advice.
*Organizing many awareness camps related to different issues for the masses.
