Silence
Often it is said that silence has a tremendous power in it. Children do not like silence. Elderly people prefer silence. Parents of young children do not like their children to make noise. But they do not want their children to be too silent and make no fun either.
Silence is a good activity to preserve energy. Silence often protects us from being fools by talking. When we speak others know how much we know about something and how much we do not know. If we are silent, others do not know about our knowledge, feelings and status of our mind.
Observing silence in a group is a convention to pay tributes to a great soul who has departed us. Silence is mandatory for meditation. Of course in meditation there is a constant chanting of a mantra or word. Great sages or rishis used to meditate in praise of the God for years together.
While describing horror incidents or stories or films, silence is used as a precedent to terrible shock. Children are afraid of total silence in the middle of darkness. If there is a noise and familiar sound, then darkness does not frighten kids that much.
It is often preferred at home that children do not make noise. But often at home observing total silence is not good. A totally silent home is not a happy home.
In space far from Earth, there is cosmic silence. Often silence is synonymous with peace, energy, calmness, agreement and goodness. In a classroom, meeting room, seminar hall silence is to be observed as otherwise proceedings cannot take place at all.
