A girl child was generally considered as someone who would be part of another family eventually and was treated with some wariness. Thins are fast changing with changing times. Girls are given the privilege of a good education. Generally girls take this privilege very seriously and do well too.
Now parents give equal opportunities to girls and boys. This has influenced our current generation a lot. This is true for most middle class families.
Bur the same cannot be said for lower income groups. Due to lack of enough sources of income, girls are made to work early in their life to add to the income of the family. The same continues when they get married and move into their new household. The male member may earn but it may not be enough for sustenance so girls end up contributing to the family income in addition to taking care of the family.
The discrimination is visible when she ends up supporting before marriage and after marriage without much privilege of education or any other support. Things should be improved by encouraging girls to study and do well in life. The girl child growing in lower income group families should be encouraged to study and also take enough vocational training to support her life.
