Compound 'A' colorless liquid and is widely used in perfumes as a flavoring agent. The molecular formula of 'A' is 88. On treating 'A' with a base, compounds 'B' and 'C' are obtained. Compound 'B', on heating with concentrated H₂SO₄ at 443 K gives 'D'. The compound decolourises bromine water solution. On treating compound 'C' with sodium bicarbonate, brisk effervescence is observed. Identify the compound A, B, C and D. Also give the reaction involved in each step.

Esters are used in the manufacturing of thinners. Among esters, ethyl ethanoate has the molecular formula 88. So, compound 'A' is ethyl ethanoate (CH₃COOC₂H₅). On treating ethyl ethanoate with a base, ethyl alcohol and Ethanoic acid are obtained.
