Compound X is obtained by passing gas Y through dry slaked lime. On exposure to air, it produces a strong smell of gas Y and also forms calcium carbonate. Identify X and Y. also mention the equation.​

X- Bleaching powder

Y- Chlorine gas.

I don't exactly remember the formula of B.P. but is it CaOCl2?

The passing equation would be

Ca(OH)2 + Cl2- CaOCl2 + H2O.

And exposure to air one is

CaOCl2 + Co3- CaCO3+ Cl2.

Its from salts chapter cbse class 10th right?

I'm 99% sure its correct.
