compounds like AgCl and AgBr are kept in dark bottles to keep them away from light as in the presence of light/ sunlight, these decompose into Ag to liberate Cl2 and Br2 gas respectively. i.e.
2AgCl---sunlight-->2Ag+Cl2
2AgBr---sunlight-->2Ag+ Br2.
