- Wanda was different from others. She had no friends. She came to school alone and went home alone. She always wore a faded blue dress that didn't fit her properly. Unlike others, she didn't talk to anyone.
- No, she had not hundred dresses because she was very poor and wore the same faded dress regularly. She had an inferiority complex. In order to hide her complex and impress other girls, she always said that she had 100 of dresses.
- Maddie was embarassed by the question asked by Peggy to Wanda because she was poor herself. She always wore old clothes which were handed by someone else. She didn't feel sorry for Wanda but she was worried that perhaps later, everyone would start teasing her. She was not as poor as Wanda was but she was afraid that others would mock her too.
