Comprehension Questions
1. Why did the author’s parents move? Give some possible reasons why they left their home and their country to make a new life elsewhere.
2. What does “with a smile or a fist” mean? (line 11)
3. Who is the subject of the poem? (What personal pronoun does the author use?) Does this make the person sound confused about his or her identity?
4. Explain the comparison the author makes between the people and “a great flock of swallows”. (lines 26-29)
