They're nearing the best that they've been to present day, but there's absolutely no reason to think that they've reached some peak and won't get better. Silicon transistors are still shrinking, and there are candidates for replacing silicon with materials that can shrink further. Spintronics and optical computing are bigger conceptual jumps but offer the possibility of very high performance using very little power and putting out minimal heat. Quantum computers can quickly solve classes of problems that classical computers have no hope of solving in a reasonable amount of time. Algorithms are improving, for example machine vision is light years ahead of where it was 15 years ago. Computers have come a long, long way, but there are lots of reasons to think that they'll continue to evolve and transform well into the future.
