Concave mirror in a dentist chair of an example of Magnification of the object.

Explanation:

  • When the dentist takes his mirror very close to the teeth the object lies beyond the focal point and nearer to the pole of the mirror.
  • On drawing the corresponding ray diagram we find it out that the image so formed is virtual, erect and magnified.
  • The magnified image can better be analysed by the dentist. Hence he uses a concave mirror.
  • On using a convex mirror, the image would have been smaller and on using a plane mirror the image would have been of the same size.
