Answer:

The story of Bringing up Kari takes us through the life of the narrator who has a baby elephant named Kari. The boy grows together with Kari and through this story, narrates his experience. The story is a very sweet narrative that makes us grow fond of Kari. The relationship the narrator shares with Kari is pure and sweet. Kari loves taking bath in the river and the author takes him for morning baths to the river. The friendship of Kari and the boy is endearing, to say the least. On one day, Kari pushes the narrator in the stream only to save another drowning boy. However, the narrator cannot swim, and eventually, Kari ends up saving them both. He also mischievously steals bananas and learns a lesson too for this wrongdoing. Kari learns many other tricks as the narrator keeps teaching him along with the final Master call

Explanation:

Kari was 5 months old when he was given to the narrator (who is 9 years old) for handling. They both grew up together. The narrator would used to rub him with clean sand on the sand bank for an hour. Then he would lie down in the water for a long time. On coming out he would shine like ebony. Kari was mischievous, but helpful too. He saved the life of a boy drowning in the river with the help of the narrator. He also developed a great love for ripe bananas. One day he stole the ripe bananas kept on the dining table with the help of his trunk. His trunk looked like a snake. The parents scolded the servants and the narrator as they thought that they have done this work. Later on the narrator found out banana peels in the pavilion of Kari and so he scolded him. He took 3 lessons to understand "Mali", which means to walk, 3 weeks to understand "Dhat", which means to sit down, and it takes 5 years for a elephant to learn the master call.

Hope it helped you!
