Human rights refers to the rights inherent to all human beings, irrespective of race, sex, nationality, ethnicity, language, religion, or any other status. It  includes the right to life and liberty, freedom from slavery and torture, freedom of opinion and expression, the right to work and education and so on.  

The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is  responsible  for the promotion and protection of human rights.  It supports the human rights through  peacekeeping missions in several countries.The High Commissioner for Human Rights regularly moniters on human rights situations in the world and has the authority to investigate situations and issue reports on them.
