The population problem of India is one of rapid population growth or population explosion. This is due to high birth rate and low declining death rate. During 1901-1951, the population grew by 12.3 crore, while during the next 50 years from 1951 to 2001, it increased by 66.6 crore, that is by more than 5 times.
