Citizenship seems to suppose the existence of frontiers. Yet, as the contributions to this volume indicate, these frontiers have constantly been subject to redefinition. This chapter will attempt to review these studies of the redrawing of the boundaries and to do so by relating each to a number of models of citizenship or, to complicate the metaphor, a number of views of the paths to citizenship.
