Before I start to Answer this Question and give you insights into the pros & cons and eventually the conclusion of the Demonetization, Let me make this clear, In this answer I am not Criticizing the Government or any of its Initiatives my only motive will be to make the Readers aware of certain Facts about one of the most Contentious Issue of the Indian Economy & the rest will be left for you to Decide whether it was a helpful or a futile step of the Government.
Advantages of Demonetization:
Digital Transactions/Electronic Payments Surged - Since digital transactions are believed to bring Transparency to the System. Hence it can be said that it is a good sign for Indian Economy.

Even though it is Evident from above that due to Demonetization our Country faced a number of Problems but it should also be noted that Indian Economy is known as a Resilient Economy and the Current state of Economy Proves this fact because except for few Sectors almost all the sectors have recovered from the shock of Demonetization & the GDP growth for the 3rd Quarter is estimated at 7.1% which is most likely to increase further in Future.
Trade balance with the rest of the World has Improved,
Current Account Deficit(CAD) has come down to 1.5%of the GDP,
Inflation has come down to 4–5% range.
India is back on the Track again to be the Fastest Growing Economy.
