when Alwardi khan was the nawab of Bengal, he had followed a policy of keeping the European merchants under his control but after his death siraj-ud-daulah became the nawab of Bengal. The British started extending the fortification of Calcutta. Robert Clive set out from Madras with an army of 900 Europeans and 1200 Sepoys well trained in European style .
It was fought between the forces of east India company under Robert Clive and the army of siraj-ud-daulah at plassey between Calcutta and murshidabad but Clive easily won the battle.
