Kolleru Lake:

  • Kolleru lake is largest fresh water lake in India as well as largest shallow fresh water lake in Asia.
  • It is located in Andhra Pradesh, with it is draining in Bay of Bengal.
  • In the year of 2006, Supreme Court of India took its big project called as Operation Kolleru.
  • This was taken because Kolleru lake was getting polluted by neighbouring industries and cities which drained into the lake.
  • So, ecosystem involving catchment area of lake is getting affected.  
  • Thus, Supreme Court took the initiative to cut down ways of its pollution. Now, its gradually returning to it is previous state.
