Last week I went for an excursion with my friends. We decided to go to a hilly area near our town. We started early in the morning so that we may reach well before the weather became hot. Our breakfast and lunch was packed and we carried our backpacks with us. We stopped to eat at the foot of the hills and after a light breakfast, continued our journey to the top of the hill. We were in a merry mood and the weather was favourable, so we sang as we climbed up. Once at the top, we celebrated by shouting and dancing. After a while, hunger started troubling us and we decided to eat. Relaxing under the tree after lunch is so refreshing. A nap was well deserved and we spread our legs and were asleep within minutes. Loud thunder and a sudden downpour startled us and we rushed to find shelter. We were happy to see the rain as this would reduce the heat. But to our horror, the rain did not stop but continued pouring. It was hours since it had started raining and there was no sign of any respite. Being on a hilly region, we were afraid of the consequences and prayed fervently for the rain top stop. But it was a bad day for us as our prayers went unanswered as heavens continued to pour down their wrath. We had difficulty in keeping on our feet as the area was flooded. We decided to climb on a tree that looked strong enough to hold the weight of the four of us. But to our horror, the flood was so severe that a landslide could be forecasted. With a tremendous effort, we moved from our meagre shelter and started to look for something better. We found a small cave which was barely ,large enough to hold the four of us. We lighted candles that we had as it was getting dark and ate whatever food we had. The next day came and went but the rain continued to lash at the hills. For three days the rain vented its anger on the hills and we were stranded in the cave. God knows what our families must have gone through. On the morning of the fourth day the sun peeped out as it had stopped raining. We stepped out exhausted and hungry and were thinking how we would manage to go down when we saw rescue teams coming in search for us. We were taken to the hospital first and treated for cold and malnutrition. Then we went home, happy to be back with our loved ones.
