Different methods are used for rain water harvesting in my locality. Some people in my locality have an in depth knowledge of rainfall regimes and soil types and have developed a wide range of techniques to harvest rainwater, groundwater, river water and flood water in keeping with the local ecological conditions and our water needs.
In the hilly and mountainous regions of our locality they have built diversion channels like the guls of the western Himalayas for agriculture. Rooftop rain water harvesting is commonly done to store drinking water.
They told me that in the plain areas they are developing inundation channels to irrigate their fields. They plan to convert the arid fields into rain fed storage structures that will allow the water to stand and moisten the soil.
Seeing their efforts I request the local councilor to provide them due help in carrying out these schemes and provide the latest technical knowledge regarding the same.
