i. They used to play outdoor games like cricket or kabaddi and they really enjoyed playing outdoor games. They used to play with their friends and it was really fun back then. They used to play for many hours at a stretch as there was no electronic gadget to spend time on.

ii. They used to listen to classical and devotional songs as their elders chanted many devotional songs and they were also used to do the same. Classical songs were very popular during their time. They used to spend their evenings listening and reciting these songs.

iii. Movies of various actors like the legendary Amitabh Bachchan and many other Bollywood stars at that time. The movie tickets costs were less and they enjoyed watching pictures during weekends at their neighbours or a cinema hall.

iv. When they were at school, they used to watch religious shows like Ramayana, Mahabharata and Shree Krishna. Those shows were sensational back then. These shows had humongous popularity and were re-watched a couple of times.

v. These things gave them enjoyment and they liked to spend time with their large families as joint families were quite prevalent back then. They have more freedom and can spend more time doing physical activities.

vi. There were many limitations like they can’t stay out late. They cannot bunk school, if found, they were punished. Their punishments were harsh because they could be beaten up.

vii. They were not allowed to do these things because the head of the family was strict about the rules and regulations and anyone adhering to these rules was dealt with seriously.

viii. They believed that their children must study and become their better selves. They had imposed various restrictions on them. They had a lot of freedom but not all the time.

ix. They were forced to study a lot. They used to argue that they had to go out and play. Sometimes they agreed but most of the time, they were arguing that they shall be allowed to go play.

x. They were given pocket money of few paisa or rupees as that money was equivalent to today’s 100 rupees. They used to spend money watching roadshows or buying snacks.

xi. They were given limited money and they used to spend anywhere between 25 to 50 paisa on whatever things they liked.

xii. They are strict and they impose the same restrictions as their own parents did. They force us to study hard and become a better person.

xiii. My parents admired many film stars or the people who used to live with them and become quite famous. They were the source of inspiration to push their limits.

xiv. They were worried about not playing during exam times. Playing was a major thing back then. During exams, they were asked to study more and play less. They were worried as they couldn’t meet their friends.
