For the experiment you will require a gold foil, radioactive material that will decay to produce the alpha emitting rays and a wire.
Take a wire coated with the radioactive material and pass the alpha rays through a narrow slit that will result into a narrow, rectangular beam rather than a narrow circular pencil shaped beam.
You will then expect most particles in a beam of particles to pass through thin sections but undeflected  and others to be slightly scattered as they encounter electrons.
You can then bombard very thin foils of gold with alpha particles, from this you will observe that majority of the particles penentrate through the foil undeflected, some particles will also experience slight deflections.
A few (about 1 in every 20000)will suffer rather serious deflections as they penentrate through the foil and you will also observe that the same number will not pass through the foil but will bounce back in the direction they came.
