EXPERIMENT:-

Aim :- To prove that  nylon is  stronger than steel wire​.

Procedure :-

✦ Take wires of steel and nylon of about same length and thickness.

✦ Hang a steel wire  from a stand.

✦ Attach a pan at the other end of the wire.

✦ Keep adding  weights, one by one, to the pan until the wire breaks

✦Note the total weight required to break the steel wire.

✦ This gives a measure of the tensile strength of the wire.

✦Repeat the same with nylon wire.

Observation :-

✧ Steel wire is much more easily broken whereas  the nylon wire is broken at very heavy weights.

Reason:-

✧ Steel is an alloy whereas  Nylon is a polymer (synthetic fibre). It is a polyamide. The amide linkage between the monomers makes nylon fibres very strong.

Conclusion:-

Hence, Nylon wire is stronger than steel wire.
