Evolutionarily, thallophytes and bryophytes were the first organisms to evolve on this earth and hence they have a simple body (thalloid) organisation. They do not have conducting tissues i.e. xylem and phloem in them. Thallophytes have more simple body than bryophytes and hence they do not have roots, stems and leaves, bryophytes have root like, leaf like and stem like structures(true roots, stems, leaves are absent in both). As they do not have conducting tissues they are also known as atracheates.
