Sri Lanka has been mired in ethnic conflict since the country, formly known as Ceylon , became independent from British rule in 1948.A 2001 government census Sri Lanka's main ethic populations are Tamils, Sri Lanka moor, the Sinhalese. the sri lankan civil war lies between the minority Sinhalese and minority Tamils. the demand of Tamil people was to recognize Tamil language as official language.
Tamils were made stateless and and were deported back to India.
