1) Test for starch:-

Aim:- Test for starch

Materials required:- Iodine crystals, water, some food items to test with, and a dropper.

Procedure:- Take some iodine crystals and dilute it. Put a drop of diluted iodine solution on the food items u want to test and observe the colour of the iodine.

Conclusion:- Dark blue or Blue black color of the iodine on the respective food item indicates the presence of starch in it.

2) Test for proteins:-

Aim:- Test for proteins

Material required:- Copper sulphate solution, caustic soda solution, test tube, water, and some food items you want to test with, and a dropper.

Procedure:-

1. Take a small quantity of the food items to be tested.

2. Grind/ mash/ paste/ powder the food item.

3. Put the food item into the test tube.

4. Add 10 drops of water and shake the test tube

5. Using a dropper, add two drops of copper sulphate into the test tube.

6. Add 10 drops of caustic soda solution and shake the test tube.

7. Observe the colour of the substance.

Conclusion:- Violet colour indicates the presence of protein in it.

3) Test for fats:-

Aim:- Test for fats.

Materials required:- A paper, and a small amount of food item you want to test with.

Procedure:- Take the food item with which you want to test, and rub it on a paper.

Now, observe what happens to the paper.

Conclusion:- If the paper turns translucent, then it indicates the presence of fats in it.
