1929

The Indian National Congress, on 19 December 1929, passed the historic 'Purna Swaraj' – (total independence) resolution – at its Lahore session. It was decided that January 26, 1930 would be observed as the Purna Swaraj (complete Independence) Day.

The attitude of the British government compelled the national leaders to adopt the the goal of complete independence. Continued economic exploitation of the Indians by the British angered the leaders.

HENCE The Purna Swaraj resolution—proclaimed on January 26, 1930, later to be celebrated as independent India's Republic Day—called for “complete freedom from the British”
