The biggest challenge for Indian agriculture is the decreasing size of land holdings, which can potentially make the profession unfeasible, warned Prakash Bakshi, chairman of National Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), the national refinances for banks in the rural sector. He told ET that amendments are needed in laws governing leasing of land to ensure that farming remains a feasible profession.
