 the real purpose was to weaken the feeling of nationalism in Bengal ,then one of main centres of the Indian national movement.It was also aimed at dividing Hindus and Muslims along communal lines.The partition of Bengal angered people all over the country. Hundreds of meetings were in Bengal and elsewhere as a sign of protest.
