Answer:

Cricket is a very famous sport nowadays. It is played between 11 players of 2 teams and 1 player each as extra or twelfth men.The game of cricket was originated in 16th century in England. It became country's national sport in the 18th century.Presently it is governed by ICC (International Cricket Council). The name cricket is derived from dutch word Krick meaning stick. Earlier the most popular form of the game was test match. These games were played for 5 days and 4 innings. Slowly the game evolved and one day match format was introduced in the year 1971.The first one day match was played between Australia and England on 5th January 1971. It was not very commercialized sport back then. The first world cup (limited over) was played in the year 1975.

Now days the form of game has changed. Limited over cricket is taking prominence over test cricket. A new format has evolved as 20-20 cricket match, each team playing 20 overs of 6 balls. As this is the age of commercialization everything is being commercialized and cricket is also one of them. The  biggest example is IPL or International Premier League. IPL has become a huge commercial format. This commercialized format of cricket involves celebrities, cricketers, cheerleaders. A lot of glamour is added to the game.As nobody wants to spent 5 days to know the result of a match, this new format of 20-20 is most thriving and commercialized. Cricketers are earning money not only on field but outside as well. Cricketers nowadays have become models. As they have become role models of many youngsters they are earning sizable amounts of money as brand ambassadors of company's. The biggest contributors to this form of cricket are us the audiences. The real motivation behind commercialization of game is earning money and not spirit of game. It has become like a money making machine rather than a sport to enjoy.

Every coin has two sides, the same goes with commercialization of cricket. At one side where it is generating a lot of employment and entertainment on the other side it is detrimental to the true sport. It is creating a cricket fever and everyone is mad about it leaving other important things behind. The originality of the game is also lost as people are more interested in watching only 20-20 matches. Players are also suffering because of continuous matches they are unable to get proper rest. Its the responsibility of ICC to check the numbers of matches so that players get sufficient rest. The types of matches and their quantity needs to be moderated so that originality and spirit of game is preserved.
